Kilcoole Gun Running

On August 1st, 1914, 600 German-made Mauser 71 single-shot rifles, together with 200,000 rounds of ammunition, were landed on the beach at Kilcoole and spirited away under cover of darkness. In October 2016 Kilcoole’s “Feet on The Beat” committee took the initiative to mark the occasion by placing a commemorative plaque at the top of the Sea Road which was unveiled on November 27th. We were delighted with the opportunity to work with local Artist Michael Kuntz who designed the plaque and to donate the finished work to the village.
